some are now calling it a terror strike meant to coincide with the anniversary of 9/11. >> there were two attacks. tonight, the u.s. navy has launched two warships off the coast of libya. >> tonight, we have team coverage. jackie benson has more on the demonstration outside the white house. but, first, here's chard attacks on u.s. diplomatic buildings. one here in cairo. spontaneous in passion, harmless. the other in benghazi. focused and deadly. protesters in cairo answer a preacher's call on tv to go to the u.s. embassy to denounce a video made in the u.s. that insults islam. by 6:00 p.m., protesters scale

walls. no one is hurt, but egyptian police are noticeably slow to arrive. around 10:00 p.m. in libya, militants attack the u.s. consulate in benghazi. they set the consulate on fire. over the next five hours until nearly dawn, u.s. and libyan security personnel inside the consulate battle the militants building to building. four americans, including the consulate, were killed. today, the libyan government, which has close relations with the united states, apologized. and there was a pro-american demonstration in benghazi. but elsewhere in the region, there were anti-american demonstrations.

in afghanistan, the government blocked access to youtube. and in egypt, where it all began, the protest in front of the u.s. embassy. richard engle, nbc news, cairo. >> here at home, dozens gathered outside the white house to denounce the violence in libya. live in d.c. with the calls for justice. jackie? >> reporter: this was organized through social media by libyans with one foot here in the d.c. area and the other thousands of miles away. >> reporter: the young man who organized the vigil in front of the white house for am bas dar chris stevens is a graduate of jeb stuart high school and took a year off to become a freedom fighter in libya. >> he was really enthusiastic about being there. and he was also excited about libyan americans coming and helping. i remember him specifically telling us, the few libyan

americans that were there, that he's very proud as an american that we're here as americans helping out this revolution. >> reporter: among those who spoke, a university of maryland student who met ambassador stevens in libya. >> translator: we really want to live amongst the libyan people. he would go out. he would explore. he would -- he really would -- i felt like he considered libya his home. >> reporter: most of those who lit candles in memory said they had never met ambassador stevens. but they appreciated his obvious love for his job and for libya. >> he's part of us. he's part of our family. he really cares for this country and to see something like this happen to him and what his family is going through, this is the least we could do, just come out here and be in solidarity. >> reporter: and obviously, there is great interest for any plan for a memorial service.

>> right now, the search is on for a man who opened fire at morgan state university. the victim was shot inside the campus student center. police say he was not a student, but the attack is raising some serious questions about safety at the school. shamari stone is in baltimore with the latest on the investigation. >> the university center is the hub here at morgan state. tonight, a shooting inside here has a lot of students concerned. >> i don't feel safe. >> khron is a freshman in baltimore after a gunman shot a man on cam pugs. >> reporter: it was anxious moments inside the university student center. khyron was eating when a man walked in the building, shot the man in the stomach and walked away. >> i seen a guy come out of the bathroom bleeding and he just fell on the ground. >> reporter: police put the

campus on laockdown. >> i was scared for a second and then i was like, well, you know, at least they're safe now. >> reporter: tonight, students question security risks of an open campus. i talked to the university spokesperson about their concerns. >> we invite and encourage the community to come and partake in what the university has to offer. >> reporter: you see that camera right there? it might have captured the shooter coming out of the building right here. this is the doorway. police will review that camera up there and all throughout the campus in hopes of catching the shooter. >> two prince george's county high school students have been murdered. within three weeks' time, both were models. both cases remain unsolved. last month, amber stanley was shot and killed inside her own

home in kettering. police say there is no reason to believe the shooting were connected. >> stuff is happening here. stuff is happening at flowers, all over. it just makes each one of us think okay, am i going to be the next person at this school or that skoom chool to die next. >> maryland live is now the third largest commercial casino in the country. a dedicated high-limit slots room. maryland has more than 4700 slot machines. the casino's been open since early june. >> why go inside a casino on a night like this? it's beautiful out there. looking at people at dupont circle. lots of us were out and about on

man. he's accused of asking women for directions while also video taping them with a hidden camera in his backpack. detectives may believe there may be more victims, including some under the age of 18. >> in virginia tonight, charges against two women accused of running an illegal day care in woodbridge. they're accused of keeping seven babies strapped in their car seat. some of them left in a closet in the bathroom. a neighbor who works in child development at quantico is horrified. >> to hear something like that is very shocking. >> investigators say most of the children were not adequately supervised. >> luxury labels like chanel for

sale in the back room of a hair salon. officers say she had $20,000 worth of stolen goods set out like a boutique. they believe she placed orders with professional thieves to steal exactly what she wanted. officers claim she sold the goods at full price. >> for the second time in the past week, a rabid beaver has cast fear. this latest incident happened saturday in springfield. 15 children were walking near a pond when suddenly a beaver came out of the water and lunged at a 4-year-old girl. nobody was bitten. >> the beaver was just kind of walking around. it didn't seem to be doing anything at all. just hanging out. and then she shot it. >> this is the second time a rabid beaver has attacked. 83-year-old lilian is out of the hospital after being bit while

start tomorrow. right now, we're at 67 and winds out of the southwest. everybody in the 50s to norlt and west. we're looking at 57 in culpepper. we are going to cool, but we're not going to get down into the low 40s like we were the last two nights. i think maybe the mid to upper 40s for you folks out towards the west. for now, no rain. there is a very potent storm. this actually braugt colorado a lot of rain. and they also had some snow up towards the highest elevations. pike's peek hak had a little bi snow today. that front, very cold air behind it right now. it's only 52 in denver. that won't happen here. but what will happen is this area of high pressure will

slowly move off the kwoes. more nice weather on friday ahead of that same cold front. it will have some cooler air behind it. it will also have some shower activity associated with it. but as it moves over the mountains, it will dry out. so i'm not expecting rain for this, but if where he do, it would be late friday night. as the front moves through. saturday just reinforces the great weather. saturday and sunday look gorgeous out there before our potential big storm moves in early next week. and it could be a pretty big one. in to the mid 40s for the west. about 57 in and around the dpis trikt. actually, going 60 degrees here as you make your waif through the day early tomorrow morning. once again, 47 in some of the coolest areas to about 60 in the city. tomorrow afternoon, you'll be able to take that jacket off very quickly. tomorrow is another perfect day,
